Description:
This one day workshop will cover the basic principles and science of assistive technology assessment of needs, goals identification, characteristics of technologies available to meet clients needs, case studies and followed by an open discussion on the current issues on Assistive Technology. This workshop will be addressing the challenges that Assistive Technology Professionals/ Practioners are facing by gaining more knowledge on the principles and fundamentals of assistive technology.

Throughout this course, case studies will be used to illustrate applications of principles and theories in assistive technology provision. Terminology, principles, and application of clinical issues relating to assistive technology will be presented. The emphasis of this course will be on development of an understanding of the general assessment process and principles. Goal writing and related measure of functional performance will be discussed.

Learning Outcomes:
As a result of this activity, participants will be able to:

1) Gain a basic understanding of terminology, principles and applications of clinical practives relateing to assistive technology.

2) Develop an understanding of the general assessment process, team, principles, goal writings and related measures of functional performance as they apply to AT provision.

3) Develop a basic understanding of how technology features, products and theories apply to interfacing, selecting and recommending assistive technology interventions.

4) Describe major sources of funding for AT.

5) Recognize and appropriately use relevant terminology for the carious different categories of AT presented.

6) Identify characteristics of equipment features for the various different categories of AT presented.
