Virtual 3D worlds, games, and online learning environments are rapidly changing how students are engaged in educational services. By their very design these learning environments immerse students in technology and provide an amazing forum for collaboration, problem solving, and assessment. In virtual meetings students work together in ways that mirror how adults use 21st Century Skills. In a virtual world, many students are able to participate in activities that would be difficult in the real world. The paradigm moves from having disabilities to having virtual abilities. Join us as we explore the educational integration of these amazing technologies.Speaker Biography :
David Davis is the Coordinator for the Florida Diagnostic & Learning Resources System (FDLRS) Technology Network which consists of five Regional Technology Specialists, five Regional Assistive Technology Specialists, and the Technology Specialists in 19 FDLRS Centers throughout Florida. Responsibilities of FDLRS Tech include the statewide coordination of support and technical assistance in the areas of assistive technology, instructional/learning technology, UDL, AIM, and virtual instruction systems for students with disabilities. Mr. Davis has worked with the FDLRS Network for 20 years. Prior experience includes five years as a Habilitation Specialist with the Florida Dept. of Health and Rehabilitative Services, nine years as a Certified Behavior Analyst, and eight years as a music therapist.Learning Outcomes:
As a result of this activity, participants will be able to:1. List examples of virtual learning environments.
2. Discuss the advantages of using a virtual learning environment with students with disabilities.
3. D escribe accessibility solutions for various virtual learning environments.
