2010 West Tennessee Assistive Technology Conference

The West Tenn. Assistive Technology Conference was created specifically for offering the local area school systems and other institutes training in the field of Assistive Technology. This year’s international conference presenter will focus on Literacy skills and Curriculum Adaptations for students with significant communication needs. The information presented will enable local personnel to experience and learn new Assistive Technology research, strategies, and implementation ideas without having to go a long distance. They will be well-informed with practical AT solution ideas and apply it with their students immediately within their own school system/institute.
Learning Outcomes:
Day 1 Learning Objectives:As a result of this activity, participants will be able to: :
1. Identify strategies to promote language, communication, and early literacy skills in young children.
2. Generate methods on how to engage children with significant communication and language needs in motivating them to interact with books. 3. Identify ways in providing all children with opportunities to participate, communicate, and learn.
Day 2 Learning Objectives: As a result of this activity, participants will be able to:
1. Identify research based strategies on how to adapt the curriculum for students with complex communication needs.
2. Generate methods on how to teach students with complex communication needs to increase comprehension and written communication skills. 3. Identify ways to evaluate the effectiveness of assistive technology so students use the technology appropriately.
