This session will explore ways to use Web 2.0 tools to engage in or provide professional development in the field of Assistive Technology. We will look at free or low cost tools such as Twitter, Delicious, Discovery Education Network, Skype, webinars, blogs, wikis, and podcasts. We will explore ways that you can engage in high quality professional development with nationally known speakers at a fraction of the cost of attending a conference or booking a face to face training. Participants will discover ways to build their Professional Learning Network using 21st century tools that can be accessed anytime, anywhere, and any place they have an internet connection.Speaker Biography:
Beth Poss is an Instructional Specialist with Montgomery County Public Schools, an Assistive Technology Consultant and Trainer, and adjunct faculty for Johns Hopkins University and Towson State University. She presents at local, state and national conferences on Universal Design for Learning, Assistive Technology, and how technology is an integral part of the education of 21st Century Learners.Christopher R. Bugaj is the host of the A.T.TIPScast, an award-winning podcast featuring technology to differentiate instruction. Chris is the co-author of The Practical (and Fun) Guide to Assistive Technology in Public Schools: Building or Improving Your District’s AT Team and presents at local, state, and national conferences. He is a speech-language pathologist working as an assistive technology trainer for Loudoun County Public Schools.
Learning Outcomes:
As a result of this activity, participants will be able to:1. Participants will learn how to access a range of online tools and supports for PD.
2. Participants will learn how to create a Professional Learning Network that is customized to their needs and interests.
3. Participants will learn how to find quality PD experiences for low or no cost.
