Apps for the iPad, iTouch, & iPhone on Stuttering, Artic, & Language

Description:
School therapists will enjoy finding a bag of tricks in their pocket to meet the needs of a large and very diverse caseload. There are thousands of apps out there, but “How do I choose?”  This session will review apps for students with articulation problems, fluency issues, voice disorders and language delay.  Apps will be identified with some initial guidelines for how to evaluate these increasingly popular ‘pocket’ products.

Speaker Biographies:

Phyllis Watson, CCC-SLP is a speech-language pathologist and AAC specialist with more than 25 years of experience working with children, adolescents and adults with severe disabilities, in a variety of settings, including nursing homes, hospitals, developmental day programs, and the public schools. She has also taught courses at several universities, including Butler University, Indiana University and University of NH. Phyllis has presented at local and national conferences.  Phyllis currently works for Crotched Mountain ATECH services as an AAC Specialist.

 

Learning Outcomes:
As a result of this activity, participants will be able to:

1. Participants will be able to identify five apps that aid in the assessment and or practice of communication disorders.

2. Participants will be able to identify two apps that aid in data collection.

3. Participants will be able to identify two guidelines for product evaluation.
