Description:
Switch Blitz v.2011 is an idea generating session, a blitz of many items and strategies yet in a step by step format that will help you get started with switch use, motivate the stagnate switch user and progress the present switch user to higher levels.

Switch Blitz v.2011 is a session with plenty of demonstrations and information that will take you from assessment to implementation. First we will touch on basics, and then progress to assessments, tools, strategies and resources. You will see demonstrations of switch software as well as FREE online switch resources. Participants will enjoy seeing video case examples of successful kids using their switches at the computer and for powered mobility.

Speaker Biographies:

Cindy is a Registered Occupational Therapist, ATP certified, DPI licensed in the state of WI and a graduate of the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee. Background includes 25+ years as a school based Occupational Therapist, nine years with Wisconsin Assistive Technology Initiative (WATI) and currently working as an independent Assistive Technology consultant providing assistive technology consultation and professional development for her company Universal Technology for Learning and Living (UTLL).

Cindy is published in the Handbook of Research on Human Cognition and Assistive Technology: Design, Accessibility and Transdisciplinary Perspectives, edited by Soonhwa Seok, Edward L. Meyen, and Boaventura DaCosta.

 

Learning Outcomes:
As a result of this activity, participants will be able to:

1.Participants will develop a working knowledge of best practices in the area of Switch Technologies including assessment and implementation.

2.Participants will increase knowledge of switch tools and software products and free online resources.

3.Participants will increase knowledge of success strategies to instruct students/clients in switch use.
