"Navigating the Maze of Augmentative & Alternative Communication "

Description:
The right communication device can make all of the difference for a person who has difficulty speaking. However, navigating through all of the available AAC devices can be difficult. This session will provide participants an opportunity to learn about various features and range of AAC devices/software on the market today. Information will also be provided on how iPod/iPad devices can be used as communication devices and how these mainstream devices stack up against established dedicated communication systems.

Learning Outcomes:
As a result of this activity, participants will :

1) have an understanding of the range of the various features and range of AAC devices for persons with communication difficulties.

2) will have an understanding of the various levels AAC from low tech to high tech.

3) will understand how iPod/iPad devices can be used as AAC devices and how they differ from dedicated AAC systems.
