Deploying iPads and iTouches to Support Students in Special Education

Description:
This webinar will discuss the process of deploying iPads and iTouches district wide to support students eligible for special education.  Funding, logistics, and in-depth details of the deployment will be covered.  Case Studies will be used to outline the process and the academic successes of students.  Apps utilized will be demonstrated and student work will be shown.  Key successes will be highlighted, as will areas of the deployment needing improvement. Take home points and conclusions from the deployment will be examined.

Speaker Biography:
Chris CichoskiKelly has been working with Assistive Technology for the past seven years.  For the past two years he has been the Assistive Technology Integration Specialist for the Chittenden Central Supervisory Union (CCSU) in Essex Junction, Vermont where he supports special education teachers and the students who receive special education services in utilizing assistive technology.  In 2010, Chris began implementing iPads and iTouches with students receiving special education services in 6 schools throughout CCSU.

Erin Maguire, M.Ed. is the Executive Director of Student Support Services for a school district in Essex Junction, Vermont.  She is an endorsed special education director, secondary science teacher, principal and special educator.  Her experience in special education spans 13 years and student ages 3-21.  Technology is not only a professional interest but a personal past time. She has lead systems change on multiple topics including AT across multiple school districts.

Learning Outcomes:
As a result of this activity, participants will be able to:

1. I understand the main organizational points of the iPad and iTouch deployment.

2. I understand several important keys to deploying iPads and iTouches successfully in their school district.

3. I understand and know a number of apps and functions of the iPad or iTouch and how they can be used to support student learning.
