In addition to being an Eagle Scout, Jim was a member of the Massillon Church of Christ and worked for the West Stark MRDD program. Jim was an individual who not only touched the lives of people he came in contact with, but also improved them. Knowing Jim was an inspiration to those around him even though he was a little different in appearance. He had cerebral palsy and taught people not to judge on appearance, but to know the person first before making a judgment. He has made numerous presentations to groups and individuals, helping them to understand cerebral palsy.

Jim was a frequent lecturer at Walsh University in Canton, Ohio. The Walsh web site includes a page "ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY - MEET JIM MARKS". This page includes links to speeches given by Jim and also to other resources.

Memorials in Jim’s memory will be accepted by the family.
