Personal Evidence
The most effective communication can be achieved only through the collection and analysis of language samples. Recent developments expedite the language sample collection process. Automated language activity monitoring (LAM) and other recording methods are now included as standard features in modern high performance AAC systems from a growing number of manufacturers. U-LAM (Universal Language Activity Monitoring) software is available to allow a PC to automatically collect language samples from any AAC speech output system. To learn more about language activity monitoring, click on the following link and explore the references in the U-LAM area of this site.
When a language sample has been collected using LAM, it can quickly and easily be analyzed using PeRT (Performance Report Tool). PeRT is software that generates the AAC Performance Report , a set of seventeen quantitative summary measures of communication performance. The AAC Performance Report is used to support AAC evidence-based practice, including enhancing the funding request, setting and monitoring therapy goals, and measuring outcomes. Click on the above links to experience the AAC Performance Report, to learn more about PeRT, and to access references.
The AAC Institute Self-Study Program includes a course on the AAC Performance Report. One module instructs on the use of PeRT.
