Preparing Data for PeRT Analysis

The PeRT program expects to see LAM format data. The LAM format was originally developed under a grant from National Institutes of Health (NIH) and is explained in greater detail in the Technical Guide for Developers. However, the following example reflects the required format for LAM data reporting.

09:27:17 OWS "I "
09:27:19 OWS "am "
09:27:22 SMP "hungry "
09:27:24 OWS "and "
09:27:26 OWS "I "
09:27:29 SMP "want "
09:27:34 SPE "s"
09:27:36 SPE "o"
09:27:38 SPE "m"
09:27:43 WPR "some "
09:27:49 DWP "something "
09:27:51 OWS "to "
09:27:58 PAG "eat "

Required elements are the time stamp and the content (between quotes). Each new line is a new event. The three letter mnemonic defines the way in which the language event was generated and is optional.

Different manufacturers record logged data in different ways. Here are links to instructions for preparing different formats for PeRT analysis.

Dynavox

Prentke Romich Company
(PRC device logged data complies with the LAM format.
No preparation is required.)

Note: To collect language samples from AAC systems that do not have internal data logging, use U-LAM (Universal Language Activity Monitor).
