What’s Evidence-Based Practice and Steps
Needed
to Advance the Helping Professions

The principles and steps needed to advance the helping profession apply evidence-based practice will be presented. Are professionals moving together toward achieving more successful outcomes for individuals with complex communication needs (CCN)? Although professionals may be familiar with the basic definition and three components needed for EBP, the systematic use of external evidence, personal evidence and knowledge and skills of providers is needed to advance research, practice and policies. Symposium attendees will learn about COPES (client oriented practical evidence search) to apply to decision-making and the team process.
Outcomes: On completion of this Session, participants will be able to:
1. Identify professional knowledge and skills needed to apply the principles of evidence-based practice.
2. Discuss the steps needed to advance the helping professions apply EBP.
3. Define COPES (client oriented practical evidence search)
