Clinical Practice: Performance and Outcomes Measurement
Katya Hill, Heidi Koester, Sally Fennema-Jansen
This session will provide background information on and demonstration of methods, tools, and resources to support AAC EBP and to report communication competence. Information on automated performance measurement and resources and tools being used to support clinical practice will be presented. Tools highlighted will include language activity monitoring (LAM), PeRT (Performance Report Tool), and COMPASS. In addition, the session focuses on the work of the ATOMS Project (Assistive Technology Outcomes Measurement System Project) and discusses an approach to the measurement of outcomes in augmentative communication. Participants will learn how to establish a program of AAC service delivery that includes evidence at the personal level along with the best available external evidence.
Outcomes:
1. Describe automated performance measurement tools used to collect evidence at the personal level such as PeRT and COMPASS.
2. Identify resources and tools for AT outcomes measurement used by the ATOMS project.
3. Compare and contrast methods, tools, and resources to support evidence-based practice and measure AAC performance and outcomes.
